Carrying on a Legacy and Creating My Own

I mentioned that Great Aunt Carol of GAC’s OJ cake recently passed away. Her homegoing celebration was this past Monday.

My cousin Cindy and I agreed that I would ship three GAC’s OJ cakes to Ohio to honor her and share with everyone in attendance. My cousin Bill gave a beautiful toast to Carol - with orange juice cake bites! He spoke highly about her and then how the cake was her special recipe that she shared with me. Everywhere that I’ve lived since then, I have shared that cake with friends, family and colleagues and it was universally devoured and spoken of with high praise. He mentioned that it became famous in Milwaukee through Just Sweet Enough (JSE) with such enthusiasm and pride (I saw it on the video Cindy sent me).

Just as Carol was tickled when I sent the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article featuring the cake to her, I was tickled to hear his words at her celebration of life.

And then, he SPILLED THE BEANS!

Friends, family, customers, future customers - Just Sweet Enough is going to have full page feature in Bon Appetit magazine!!!!! We’re not sure exactly what issue, but the story behind how JSE came about from someone who spent her career moving up in Corporate America moved on to focusing on a passion for baking delicious baked goods that are “not too sweet”, but “just sweet enough” is going to be published in a culinary masterpiece of a magazine! To say that I’m excited is an absolute understatement. This is epic for a one-woman shop working out of her home! It may also be the catapult to move into a commercial kitchen, scale-up and hire help. Who knows what the future holds, but I do know that this is one extremely exciting step toward something way bigger than I had imagined in the second year of business.
